From as early as I could manoeuvre a mouse, I can recall tinkering with design programs on my mum's large and clunky desktop computer. It was therefore, not an unexpected leap when I officially began my architectural career as a student at the School of Architecture at the University of Edinburgh. Here I completed a Master of Arts (in Architecture) degree and Part 1 of the RIBA career path to becoming an Architect.
On completion of this degree, I moved to New Zealand for a gap year, planning to return to complete Part 2 the following year. During my stay, not only did I fall in love with New Zealand, I also secured a job in a well established Architectural practice in Wanaka and I was faced with the enticing decision to stay and apply for residency.
I completed a number of architecture courses with Unitec Auckland where I was brought up to spec on the New Zealand landscape, and became an official NZIA graduate member. During an 8 year tenure at this growing practice, I was involved in a variety of architectural projects (small scale renovation, larger scale commercial and high end residential). During this time, I learned a vast amount about New Zealand's architectural landscape and with that knowledge, came to recognise with a very whole heart, that New Zealand was the place I wanted to progress my career.
In 2016, I took a break in my practise to have my first child. It was during this time that I was inspired to set up my own practice, Studio 8 Architectural Design in late 2017.
